Canker Sore Laser Aftercare Instructions
Laser treatment may reduce discomfort and help the treated ulcer feel less irritated, but it does not guarantee that a canker sore will disappear immediately or never recur.
These instructions cover the essential home care, expected changes, warning signs, and follow-up for canker sore laser. Your Bright Smiles clinician's instructions for your specific treatment, medicines, appliance, and medical history take priority.

Aftercare Guidance From Our Clinical Team
A Bright Smiles doctor or clinical team member reviews the most important instructions and what to expect after canker sore laser.
What to Expect
Laser treatment may reduce discomfort and help the treated ulcer feel less irritated, but it does not guarantee that a canker sore will disappear immediately or never recur. The area may look or feel different for a short period after treatment.
Your individual treatment can differ in extent, materials, medicines, and healing needs. Follow any specific instructions Bright Smiles gave you for canker sore laser, and contact us rather than guessing if your experience is substantially different from what is described here.
Protect the Area
Avoid biting, rubbing, or picking at the treated sore. Choose foods that do not sting the area; spicy, acidic, salty, sharp, or very hot foods can be uncomfortable until the tissue settles.
Avoid smoking, vaping, nicotine, and damaging oral habits whenever they can interfere with healing or increase mechanical risk. If you clench, grind, play contact sports, or have another activity that affects the treated area, follow the protection plan your clinician recommended.
Oral Hygiene
Continue gentle brushing and normal plaque control while avoiding direct trauma to the sore. Use only rinses or topical products recommended for you. Do not place aspirin or caustic home remedies directly on the ulcer.
Use only the cleaning method that fits your canker sore laser and its stage of healing. If an area cannot be cleaned without pain, bleeding, forcing a device, or disturbing healing tissue, stop and ask Bright Smiles to demonstrate the safest technique rather than improvising.
Pain Control
If additional comfort is needed, use a pain reliever or topical product only if it is safe for you and according to directions. Call if pain becomes severe rather than improving.
The overall trend matters: expected early symptoms should remain manageable and then improve. Pain or swelling that becomes substantially worse after beginning to improve, new drainage or a foul taste, fever, or symptoms that interfere with normal swallowing or breathing need prompt evaluation.
Recurrence
Laser treatment addresses the current lesion; it does not necessarily remove the reason you develop recurrent ulcers. Tell Bright Smiles if sores occur frequently, are unusually large, appear in clusters, or are associated with other symptoms.

When an Ulcer Needs Re-Evaluation
A mouth sore that does not heal in about two weeks, repeatedly returns in the same place, becomes hard, enlarges, bleeds unexpectedly, or looks unlike your usual canker sores should be examined rather than repeatedly self-treated.

General Health Warning Signs
Seek medical or dental evaluation for ulcers accompanied by significant fever, rash, eye symptoms, genital sores, unexplained weight loss, severe difficulty eating or drinking, or other systemic symptoms.

Personal Instructions, Follow-Up & Changes in Your Plan
Keep every follow-up visit Bright Smiles recommended for canker sore laser. Healing, fit, symptoms, and treatment needs can change over time, and the next step should be based on an examination rather than the calendar alone. If your clinician gave you instructions that differ from this general page because of your procedure, medical history, medication, restoration, or appliance, follow those personalized directions and contact us if anything is unclear.
Keep the review schedule Bright Smiles gives you. Follow-up for canker sore laser is used to check healing or tissue health, function and bite, home-care access, and the condition of any restoration or appliance; the interval may change with your individual risk and findings.

COMMON QUESTIONS
Canker Sore Laser FAQs
Will the laser make my canker sore disappear immediately?
Laser treatment may reduce discomfort and support healing, but the ulcer still needs time to resolve. Do not repeatedly touch or test the treated surface.
What can I eat after laser treatment of a canker sore?
Choose foods that do not sting or traumatize the area. Spicy, acidic, very hot, sharp, or crunchy foods may be uncomfortable until the tissue settles.
Can I brush near the treated sore?
Keep the mouth clean, but be gentle around the treated area and avoid scrubbing the ulcer directly if it is tender.
Why do my canker sores keep coming back?
Recurrent ulcers can have several triggers and sometimes need further evaluation. Tell Bright Smiles if they are unusually frequent, large, slow to heal, or associated with other symptoms.
How long is too long for a mouth sore to remain?
An oral ulcer that does not heal within about two weeks, repeatedly returns in the same place, becomes larger, or has unusual features should be evaluated rather than repeatedly self-treated.
What symptoms need prompt evaluation instead of routine canker-sore care?
Call for spreading swelling, fever, difficulty swallowing, multiple severe lesions, dehydration, or a persistent or unusual ulcer. Breathing difficulty requires emergency care.

When Should I Call Bright Smiles?
